Today we’re looking at a common and important question every bride and groom face when planning a wedding –
How much should you be spending on a wedding photographer.
The average spend on a wedding is around $30,000 with typically 10% of that dedicated to a wedding photographer, equalling $3,000. The majority of wedding photographers would charge around that price. That said, when it comes to wedding photographers, you will find different tiers, something worth keeping in mind. Let’s take a look at a number of examples:
The Lower Tier
When looking for a photographer for your special day, you will come across photographers charging anywhere up to $1,500. This is not to say they are necessarily bad photographers. They may be great but paying a lower tier may also result in low results. Make sure you do your research and look at the examples of their past work. Don’t make a rushed decision for such a big occasion.
The High Tier
Some photographers charge anywhere between 8k-15k. These photographers are exceptional in their field and often would have a specific niche. In addition, they may offer specific add-ons to their services, so again, you want to make sure you do your research, ask the questions and see what you are getting for your money. Maybe the cost includes a second photographer to ensure every detail is captured during your special day or maybe the price includes printing credit. It is important that you know what you want and what is the value you get for the price you are paying.
How to decide what price is right for you
Every wedding is different, and every bride and groom are different but here are two things to consider that will help you decide what price is right for you:
Do you like what you see – when looking at their portfolio and examples of their work, do you love them? Do you look at the photos and want the same for your day?
2. The Vibe – one of the main reasons wedding photos turn out great is due to the connection between the photographer and the couple getting married. In other words, the vibe. If you don’t vibe well with your photographer your photos may turn out awkward. Experience and personality are crucial and can be the difference between an average experience and a great one so make sure you and the photographer are in the same mindset.
Either way, if you found a photographer that matches your budget or found one that is above your budget, but you would love for them to capture your wedding day, ask them about different options, their packages, and value. After all, the goal is to create memories for a lifetime.
